they created what later became known as britpop.

although i am way into quiescent music, starsailor sometimes
gets a little bit too whiny,
even for me...but i liked their first album "love is here" from 2001,
and this is the opener from exactly that album.

coldplay - I ran away

this is a b-side track from the scientist single ep. I started collecting singles for their b- sides
back in the verve days. there are not a lot of bands who do this sort of thing anymore,
since the single market is totally dominated by online stores nowadays.
coldplay still do it every once in a while, and this is one of my favorite b-sides.

if you know the movie "into the wild", you should know this song. eddi vedder (pearl jam)
contributed almost all of the songs to the soundtrack.

longwave - the devil and the liar

actually i wanted to post another track of them, but i only found a video in which a half naked guy
films himself while he listens to the song. he's probably on crack or sth...but at least it's funny.
anyways, longwave is a band from ny i think, that became pretty popular cause of a song named
"wake me when it's over", and btw, that's the track with the half naked guy.

being a huge coldplay fan myself since back in the days, this maybe
something you haven't heard before.
faultline is a project by the english dj david kosten. his album
"your love means everything" features other artists like
michael stipe(rem) and nick mccabe (the verve) as well

well i guess everybody knows the kings of leon by now. after releasing one
of the best albums of the last year, "only by the night", these guys went
ver the top. today's song is a little older. it's from their second album
"aha shake heartbreack" from 2004.

the day starts so much better without your head ringing...this is a band from ireland called the brothers movement. under the link which I included, you will be directed to their myspace account where you can listen to their whole album. what sounds kind of like a james bond soundtrack is a side project from arctic monkeys lead singer alex turner. I am neither fond of the arctic monkeys nore of the shadow puppets, but this is a good song.

richard ashcroft - a song for the lovers

I still remember the days when mtv actually played music and was the only source for music videos as well. and I remember watching it the whole day, waiting for one specific song to be played so I could see it for the first time...one of these songs I have waited for days was "a song for the lovers", the first music richard ashcroft released for along time after the verve broke up.
I just love the song, and I love the way he sings over his own vocals in the video...so enjoy it and

the first two weeks - a little wrap-up

hello friends of monkeymusics,
thanks to you, the first two weeks of blogging were awesome, with more clicks per day than ever expected...
yet, one problem you have when you start a page like monkey music is that with a managable amount of visitors per day in the beginning, you don't want to give away to much already while at the same time,
you try to keep those loyal visitors happy and interested as good as possible. so be a little gracious with the little monkey man.

also, i would like to take this opportunity to give a first little wrap-up, and i am going to do that by presenting the top 4 of the most viewed videos. the rating is based on the average clicks per day.

the black atlantic - i shall cross this river

a little bird told me about this band from holland called the black atlantic. formed around the singer and songwriter geert van der velde, this band is truly something for all the fans of , well let's just call it "thoughtfull guitar music".
