i can't believe this song is already ten years old. now i do
remember that i took a while until the album came to me, but
still...time is running my friends. the year 2010 is approaching.
if you don't know this album "white latter" by david gray yet,
go and buy it. if you know it, than sit back and remember.

the flaming lips - yoshimi battles the pink robots

the flaming lips have been around since 1983. their latest
album just came out recently. this song is from 2003 but
it sounds like it's from the future. kind of fits to the
story that is told in the song.
maybe you like it.
have a nice day,

sweet jane - black eyes

today's song is from a band from ireland called "sweet jane".
right now, they are in the process of recording their upcoming
debut album "sugar for my soul" which will be released
in april next year. the song "black eyes" is a little
foretaste, for it will be on that album in a re-recorded version.
if you like the music as much as i do, just send me an email
and i will provide you with a free and legal copy of their
ep "black boots & black hearts".
a nice day to all of you,

ryan adams - everybody knows

although this is a very good live version of the song, personally,
i like the album version better and you should check it somewhere...
it's on the ryan adams' album "easy tiger" and is a little slower with
less "heavy" guitars.
funny story i read somewhere is that some guy on a concert
of ryan shouted: "hey ryan, play summer of 69", and ryan got so pissed,
because this seems to happen quite often to him, that he went off
stage and punshed that guy.
i seriously don't know why, i mean who doesn't like summer of 69?
have a nice day.

bon Iver - skinny love

if you haven't heard of bon iver yet, than go and check out
one of the best albums of 2008: for emma, forever ago.
the legend says that justin vernond wrote and recorded
the album on his own in a small remote cabin in
northwestern wisconsin. and it sure sounds like it.
last week before the holidays people!

ps: there will be a wrap-up on the upcoming sunday instead of last sunday due to time

adam green - bunnyranch

bunnyranch is a track taken from adam greens album "friends of mine"
from 2003. it's only 1.35 long, but definitely a nice track.
the album itself is also a really good album, though some of the
lyrics are kind of weird/funny.
i wish you all the best for the upcoming weekend,

guns'n' roses - patience

patience is exactly what i need right now.
i found this video in high qualitity and had to post it.
their style is just legendary...
it's from their album "lies" from 1988 that was the follow up album
of "appetite for destruction" from 1987. now that's a long time ago.
anyways, have a nice in the middle of the week day.

garland jeffreys - hail hail rock'n roll

here is a classic back from the 90's.
sounds like a dr. alban beat, but i dig this tune, hehe.
although garland geffreys was never really that successful
in selling records, he has been doing music for decades...that's the spirit i guess.
have a good week.

phoenix - lisztomania

yehaaa, friday!
some people will have a special weekend after a long period
of brain work i'm guessing...to all the others, have a
nice weekend as well.
this is a song from the latest phoenix album: wolfgang amadeus phoenix.
the only thing i can tell you about the title
"lisztomania" is that franz liszt was a composer of classic music, but you will
have to figur out the rest by yourself...

I was just in such a verve mood, had to post sth from them...
one of my favorite bands of all time...
can't see the man called sun today though, now do you?
in case you don't know, it's taken from their
ep that was released in 1992.

this song was a huge hit when i was in the states back in 98/99.
haven't really heard that much from them after that.
this is from their album "villains" from 1996. hm, 1996?
so maybe my memory betrays me...

dire straits' album "brothers in arms" was the first album i remember

from his latest: "get lucky".

wrap up 16.11.09 - 29.11.09

§%&ing a, it's sunday, the weekend is over...
happy first advent everybody, welcome to today's wrap up.
now as you may have noticed, the layout of monkeymusics has changed.
also, a list of all the featured bands with a link to their myspace account
has been added (on the right side, under monkey man's profile). that means you
will find a link to the artists official homepage (if there is one) in the post
and the myspace link in that blog section. i found that pretty helpful
on other blogs to check out more music of a specific band.
hope you like it. there will be more changes to come...
but let's talk business.

here are the top four of the last two weeks:

one: eddie vedder - society
two: band of horses - detlef schrempf
three: radiohead - the reckoner
four: ian brown - f.e.a.r.

and these are the top four of "all time":

one: tiger lou - sell out
two: stereophonics - maybe tomorrow
three: eddie vedder - society
four: band of horses - detelf schrempf

so have a nice sunday everybody, see you tomorrow.

ian brown - f.e.a.r.

ian brown is the former singer of the legendary band the stone roses. amongst others,
they created what later became known as britpop.
here he is on his own with the song f.e.a.r. from his 2001 album "music of the spheres".

starsailor - tie up my hands

although i am way into quiescent music, starsailor sometimes
gets a little bit too whiny,
even for me...but i liked their first album "love is here" from 2001,
and this is the opener from exactly that album.

stereophonics - it means nothing

this was already an alternative link when i posted "maybe tomorrow",
but my google analytics told me
that only few of you actually followed that link to youtube.
so i give it another chance...
it's from stereophonics' 2007 album "pull the pin".
good day to you,

coldplay - I ran away

this is a b-side track from the scientist single ep. I started collecting singles for their b- sides
back in the verve days. there are not a lot of bands who do this sort of thing anymore,
since the single market is totally dominated by online stores nowadays.
coldplay still do it every once in a while, and this is one of my favorite b-sides.
nice day to all of you

Monday, November 23, 2009

eddie vedder - society

if you know the movie "into the wild", you should know this song. eddi vedder (pearl jam)
contributed almost all of the songs to the soundtrack.
a really good movie and a really good soundtrack.
have a good start in the week,

radiohead - reckoner

it's been already a month since monkey music started, and I haven't posted
one radiohead song yet...this will change as of this moment.

longwave - the devil and the liar

actually i wanted to post another track of them, but i only found a video in which a half naked guy
films himself while he listens to the song. he's probably on crack or sth...but at least it's funny.
anyways, longwave is a band from ny i think, that became pretty popular cause of a song named
"wake me when it's over", and btw, that's the track with the half naked guy.

kings of leon - king of the rodeo

well i guess everybody knows the kings of leon by now. after releasing one
of the best albums of the last year, "only by the night", these guys went
ver the top. today's song is a little older. it's from their second album
"aha shake heartbreack" from 2004.
unfortunately, you can't watch it directly on monkeymusics, cause the
original poster of the video disabled the embedding function. but
just click on the video as usual and follow the link to youtube.

richard ashcroft - a song for the lovers

I still remember the days when mtv actually played music and was the only source for music videos as well. and I remember watching it the whole day, waiting for one specific song to be played so I could see it for the first time...one of these songs I have waited for days was "a song for the lovers", the first music richard ashcroft released for along time after the verve broke up.
I just love the song, and I love the way he sings over his own vocals in the video...so enjoy it and

athlete - ordinary angel

i just recently discovered this song myself. it's from athlete's new album "black swan", but apparently on some special edition that i cannot find anywhere. so, since this song is available in the internet, i thought i post this as long as it is out there...enjoy.

the first two weeks - a little wrap-up

hello friends of monkeymusics,
thanks to you, the first two weeks of blogging were awesome, with more clicks per day than ever expected...
yet, one problem you have when you start a page like monkey music is that with a managable amount of visitors per day in the beginning, you don't want to give away to much already while at the same time,
you try to keep those loyal visitors happy and interested as good as possible. so be a little gracious with the little monkey man.

also, i would like to take this opportunity to give a first little wrap-up, and i am going to do that by presenting the top 4 of the most viewed videos. the rating is based on the average clicks per day.

top 1: stereophonics - maybe tomorrow

top 2: band of horses - the great salt lake

top 3: athlete - wires

top 4: tiger lou - sell out

now if you haven't listened to one of the songs yet, make sure you do when you return to monkeymusics.
it is definitely worth your time.
and don't forget to give the black atlantic a chance, the band from this sunday. because if you like them, you can download their whole album legally and for free under the included link...

so much for now. thank you all again and take care.

the black atlantic - i shall cross this river

a little bird told me about this band from holland called the black atlantic. formed around the singer and songwriter geert van der velde, this band is truly something for all the fans of , well let's just call it "thoughtfull guitar music".

you will also find a link to their official homepage here, on which you can legally download the whole album for free!!!

so make sure you won't miss that.

lou reed - coney island baby

-since 01/11/09 this link is unavailable for all the people from germany, and apparently, there is no other version right now, sry -

oh saturday, don't go away.
can't you just stay for one more day -
or for a week, is that ok?

a former leading member of the band the velvet underground, lou reed went on in 1971 to become a successfull solo artist. known for his lyrics about personal experiences in the art culture around andy warhol, covering his excessive sex and drug life, this song "coney island baby" is a song to sit back reminiscent...
turn it up real loud, for it is recorded pretty low. you can find it on the album "coney island baby" from 1976.

blind melon - no rain

have you ever asked yourself who that guy in the guns'n'roses video don't cry is, that sings together with axl on the top of the building? no? well, i have...and i even found the answere...it is shannon hoon, the former lead singer of the band blind melon. he had actually been doing quiet some backing vocals for numerous g'n'r tracks until he became another "victim" of the magical cough suppressant, produced by pharmaceutical company bayer.
but here he is again, with his bands most famous single, no rain.
maybe this way the rain will stop...

no, this is not an update for your browser but for your music library.
these two artists do not only collaborate here for this song, but are actually a married couple from sweden, living in berlin these days.
i wouldn't think you haven't heard of tiger lou yet, but if you haven't, don't worry, for there will be much more to come, here on monkeymusics...

athlete - wires

when his child was born premature, athlete's singer joel pott processed his weeks of angst and aspiration in this beatiful track called "wires". it all turned out well, and hope was here, in a plastic box...
it's a song from the 2005 album "tourist".

stereophonics - maybe tomorrow

stepping out of the house and into the cold, I recommend you put this on your mp3 player or whatever it is that brings you music along the way...
can't really say that i am that much of a stereophonics fan, but over the years, more and more of their songs made it into my music library. and this is probably the best one of them.
it's taken from the 2003 album "you gotta go there to come back".

st. germain - sure thing

i woke up at one to find that it is actually only twelve due to daylight savings time. embracing its fortune now makes me think of the day in spring when this present will be taken away again...but who cares about tomorrow's sorrows...an interesting map can be found under this link, showing which countries of the world are actually participating in the dst. did you know that there are actually states of the us not doing it? but let's get back to music.
today's song "sure thing" is an electrical chill out tune from ludovic navarre, released under the project name "st germain" on the album "tourist" in 2000.

john mayer - who says

today's song seems perfect for a laid-back saturday, fooling around the house, doin' no things of importance which than again is something of the greatest importance to me...
in germany, john mayer is probably more known for his relationships than for his music. in the us, he is a multi-platinum selling artist who was formerly known for well-behaved soft-rock music. for the people actually listening to lyrics, this song seems to be exactly about that.
now i know what you're thinking. some people are really left up in shit creek without a paddle...but than again, we all have our issues.
this song will be on his forthcoming album "battle studies" which will be released on nov. 13.
have a nice day,

sniff 'n' the tears - driver's seat

friday is my day,
with the whole weekend ahead of you, everything seems so much easier...now i know that today's song is most def not a secret, but still such a killer tune. unfortunately this is not their legendary top of the pops performance from 1978, but the one following a year later. notice the state of the art special effects. after their 1978 performance, the people went crazy about this song, but where left to find that their was no record pressed yet due to a problem with emi's pressing plant. so it never really hit the uk charts the way it should have. but anyways, this song is from their first album "fickle heart" that came out in 1978.
have a nice day

paul mccartney - jenny wren

what do you do if you sold more than 1.3 billion records, collaborated with the greatest artists in the world and can probably wipe your ass with 100$ bills without ever running out of it? well, i don't know what i would do, but paul mccartney just keeps on doing what he always did...making music.
this is a song from his 2005 solo album "chaos and creation in the backyard" and reminds me of the old beatle classic "black bird".

pete doherty - lost art of murder

another day, another song.
this is an acoustic version of the babyshambles song "lost art of murder", performed by pete doherty himself and on his own.
whatever you've heard about him, I think he is just a pensive little self-destructive boy with a guitar...and this song is a good example for it.
have a nice day,

ps: for the ones who are interested, i've posted the urls to the complete interview which followed his performance in the comments. it's really worth watching.

band of horses formed in 2004 in seattle, usa.
their first full-length album "everything all the time" came out in 2006 and was followed by their latest album "cease to begin" in 2007.
the song "great salt lake" is from their latest album and one of my favorites for a long time.
